Coordinated Energy Conservation for Ad Hoc Networks

چکیده
This paper presents a power saving technique for multi-hop ad hoc networks. Our protocol uses a virtual backbone for energy conservation and routing. We propose a variable history based sleeping time for the non coordinators. Our simulations indicate that this scheme offers more power savings in a network with sparse message density than most other schemes discussed in the literature. We also present and prove an algorithm to form and maintain the virtual backbone in the network.

Intuitionistic fuzzy logic for adaptive energy efficient routing in mobile ad-hoc networks
In recent years, mobile ad-hoc networks have been used widely due to advances in wireless technology. These networks are formed in any environment that is needed without a fixed infrastructure or centralized management. Mobile ad-hoc networks have some characteristics and advantages such as wireless medium access, multi-hop routing, low cost development, dynamic topology and etc. In these netwo...
متن کاملLEBRP - A Lightweight and Energy Balancing Routing Protocol for Energy-Constrained Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
A wireless ad hoc network typically refers to any set of wireless networks where all devices have equal status on a network and are free to associate with any other wireless ad hoc network devices in their range. As the nature of these networks, they commonly do not have external power supplies, and each node has a limited internal power source. In this paper, we put forward a new routing proto...
متن کاملCoordinated Energy Conservation in Ad Hoc Networks
This paper presents a new power conservation scheme for multi-hop ad hoc networks. A virtual backbone consisting of special nodes (coordinators) is used for the power saving algorithm and routing. We present a novel algorithm for constructing a connected dominating set (CDS) that is used to construct and maintain the virtual backbone of the network. Our scheme includes a message history based v...
متن کاملEvaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...
متن کاملCoordinated power conservation for ad hoc networks
Existing ad hoc routing protocols assume all nodes within the network to participate in the routing process. By conditionally selecting a subset of nodes is an appropriate approach to limiting the number of nodes participating in routing such that nodes not selected may be turned off to conserve power and extend network lifetime. However, not all non-routing-related nodes will be able to be tur...
